What is meant by
parental involvement?
In 2006 the Scottish Government passed 'The Parent Involvement Act'.

This identifies 3 areas of parental involvement:

* Supporting your own child's learning at home
* Being active participants in the life of your child's school
* Having your views represented by the school's Parent Council

Curriculum for Excellence is currently being phased in across Scotland, both in primary and secondary schools.
This involves parents and schools working in partnership within communities to help all children between the
ages of 3 and 18 become:

* Successful learners
* Confident individuals
* Responsible citizens
* Effective contributors

Alongside the core skills of reading, writing and numeracy, as well as learning about our history, our world, and
its people, there is a greater emphasis on taking responsibility, building relationships and citizenship.
The Act recognises that parents and families hold the most important and sustained influence in children's lives
and their support plays a crucial role at all stages of education.
